FAQ

People wonder how we build robust software without costly ongoing fees.
Check out how we work below or contact us.

Basics

Some examples of integrations we have built include single sign on (SSO) between systems using OAuth, SAML2, JWT, or completely custom. We also take on select projects involving the syncing of data, data imports / exports, report building, PDF generation, and working with APIs. Please contact us to discuss your project.
We enjoy building special purpose websites such as event websites, knowledge bases, job boards, gallery listings, and other websites. If there is a website you are interested in discussing with us, please contact us.

Back in the 90s through 2010, software used to be custom-made for each customer, which led to ongoing maintenance costs. That's when the whole debate of buying versus building software kicked off. Buying started to make more sense because, let's face it, it's easier to just grab something that's already there than to create and manage it yourself.

Then, from 2010 to around 2020, we saw the rise of Software as a Service (SaaS). This promised low upfront costs and a reasonable fee for updates. But guess what? In late 2022, with inflation doing its thing, the idea of dirt-cheap software got a reality check. Many outfits decided to jack up their prices, leaving us all scratching our heads.

Around the same time, Google's brainchild, Kubernetes, became more accessible. And that's where we come in. Our "why" is simple: we reckon there's a slicker way to deliver top-notch software without breaking the bank. Check out the next section for the nitty-gritty on how we pull it off!

At Fixed Scope, we've rolled up our sleeves and crafted loads of software solutions for associations. We're all about breaking things down into modular bits. These smart pieces? We decided to share the love and open-source them via our very own Raytha Content Management System. The result? A robust software base that's like digital clay, ready to be molded to match your organization's quirks in record time.

Now, here's where the magic happens. Thanks to Kubernetes, we're able to whisk away your customized code and give it a cozy spot in a sheltered, super-secure digital haven. This setup not only taps into the cloud's cost-saving and scalability perks but also revives that old-school sense of uniqueness folks used to get when they DIY-ed their software.

In a nutshell, we're all about grabbing a starter kit, sprinkling in the exact features you're after, and voilà, it's all yours! Just a heads-up, you'll cover the hosting and warranty tabs, but if you're not playing around with changes, your wallet gets a break. So, to put it simply, it's your software playground with a cherry on top – and the cherry doesn't need a subscription.

When contrasting our approach with subscription software or Software as a Service (SaaS), certain distinctions emerge. SaaS entails a shared infrastructure wherein every user accesses the same foundational software. The advantage lies in the collective benefit from requested updates benefiting all users. However, the drawback surfaces in the form of escalating costs over time. Extended subscription periods might not necessarily align with the evolving feature set, leaving users shouldering increasing subscription fees for potentially underutilized functionalities.

In contrast, Fixed Scope takes a different trajectory. We initiate the process with a modular starter kit, ensuring cost-effectiveness. Subsequently, ongoing expenses primarily encompass hosting fees, an inherent expenditure regardless. Notably, our hosting package encompasses a lifetime warranty inclusive of security updates.

In essence, the decision hinges on your priorities. SaaS caters to those seeking perpetual feature updates and are amenable to commensurate expenses. On the other hand, Fixed Scope appeals to those content with a defined feature set and seek a financial structure characterized by upfront investments rather than recurrent, unforeseen maintenance charges.

No - never. All of our agreements are month to month and you are free to move to another vendor at any time. The other vendor will receive a docker package to install. If the other vendor needs help to transfer we may charge a one-time fee, but if they do not need help you are welcome to move at any time.

Support

Warranty is included with your monthly hosting fee. A warranty includes uptime, maintenance, break-fix, and bug investigation. Basically, if something goes wrong with your integration or website, you can reach out to us to investigate. If we discover the problem is on our end, we'll fix it at no charge. If the problem is with another vendor (in the case of an integration), we'll provide you the information you need to reach out to other parties for resolution.
When you work with us, you'll be paired directly with senior level developers whom you can reach out to directly. And you can always contact our general support email at [email protected].
For anything we haven't covered feel free to reach out to the Fixed Scope team at [email protected] or our contact form. We're here to help.

Payments

Many of our projects have no setup fee and can be delivered on a 1 to 2 week time scale, such as a single sign on. For larger projects, we will take an initial setup fee. Once we deliver the project and you confirm it is working, we will take your credit card on file and charge you a monthly hosting fee for the middleware. This hosting fee includes a perpetual warranty for any issues that may pop up along the way.
You'll receive an email from our payment processor, Stripe.
Many of our projects have no charge until we deliver. For projects with a deposit, if you are not satisfied at the initial delivery, you can have your deposit back no questions asked.
